50:0 ՅԱՂԱԳՍ ՊԱՀՊԱՆՈՒԹԵԱՆ ՔԱՌԱՍՆՈՐԴԱՑ:
| 50:0 On the Keeping of Lent:
| 50:1 ԹԷՊԷՏ եւ յամենայն ժամանակի վայել է վանականին զպահպանութիւն քառասնորդաց պահոց ունել, այլ քանզի այդ սակաւուց քաջութեան է, խրատ տամք գոնեայ յաւուրս քառասնորդացս ամենեւին սրբութեամբ զոճն ցուցանել, եւ զամենայն զայլոց ժամանակաց զանփոյթութիւնս յաւուրսս յայսոսիկ սուրբս բառնալ ի միջոյ:
| 50:1 The life of a monk ought always to be a Lenten observance. However, since such virtue is that of few, we advise that during these days of Lent he guard his life with all purity and at the same time wash away during these holy days all the shortcomings of other times:
| 50:2 Արդ այս յայնժամ ըստ արժանւոյն լինիցի, եթէ յամենայն չարեաց զանձինս կարճիցեմք, եթէ աղօթից ստէպ կայցեմք հեծութեամբ, եթէ ընթերցուածոյ եւ բեկման սրտի եւ զգաստութեան սկիցեմք: Զի յաւուրսս յայսոսիկ յաւելուցումք ինչ ի հանապազորդ կշիռ մերոյ ծառայութեանս. որպիսի ինչ, աղօթս աւելի քան զսովորականն, կամ կերակրոց ինչ եւ ըմբելեաց ժուժկալութիւն: Այր իւրաքանչիւր աւելի քան զչափն որ նմայն հրամայեալ իցէ, ինքնին յիւրոց կամաց անտի մատուցանիցէ Աստուծոյ ի ցնծութիւն հոգւոյն սրբոյ: Այս ինքն, հատանիցէ առնուցու ինչ ի մարմնոյ իւրմէ, մասն ինչ ի կերակրոյ եւ ըմպելոյ, եւ մասն ի քնոյ անտի եւ ի շատախօսութենէ, եւ ի խեղկատակութենէ. եւ խնդութեամբ հոգեւոր ուրախութեամբ սրբոյ Զատկին ակն կալեալ մնասցէ:
| 50:2 This will then be worthily done, if we restrain ourselves from all vices. Let us devote ourselves to tearful prayers, to reading and compunction of heart, and to abstinence. During these days, therefore, let us add something to the usual amount of our service, special prayers, abstinence from food and drink, that each one offer to God “ with the joy of the Holy Ghost” {(I Thes I :6)}, of his own accord, something above his prescribed measure; namely, let him withdraw from his body somewhat of food, drink, sleep, speech, merriment, and with the gladness of spiritual desire await holy Easter:
| 50:3 Այլ զոր ինչ մատուցանիցէն, հօրն իւրում յայտ առնիցէ, եւ նորա օրհնութեամբ եւ կամօք. զի ինչ որ առանց թոյլ տալոյ հոգեւոր հօրն լինիցի, ոչ վարձուց ինչ այլ յանդգնութեան է եւ ընդունայնապարծ փառաց: Ապա ըստ կամաց հօրն պարտ եւ պատշաճ է առնել զամենայն:
| 50:3 Let each one, however, make known to his Abbot what he offereth and let it be done with his approval and blessing; because what is done without permission of the spiritual father will be imputed to presumption and vain glory, and not to merit. Therefore, let all be done with the approval of the Abbot:
