41:0 ՅԱՂԱԳՍ ՉԱՓՈՅ ԸՄՊԵԼԻՈՅ:
| 41:0 Of the Quantity of Drink:
| 41:1 ԻՒՐԱՔԱՆՉԻՒՐ ոք զիւր շնորհ ունի յԱստուծոյ, սա այսպէս եւ նա այնպէս {(Ա. Կորն. Է. 7)} եւ նմին իրի եւ զկերակրոցն չափ փոքր մի ճշդելով կարգեմք: Բայց նայեցեալ ի հիւանդացն տկարութիւն, աւուր աւուր հիմենի միոջ գինի վասն ամենեցուն բաւական համարիմք: Այլ որոց տայ Տէր զքաջութիւն պնդութեան ժուժկալութեան, գիտասցեն զի զվարձս վաստակոց իւրեանց ընդունելոց են:
| 41:1 Every one hath his proper gift from God, one after this manner and another after that” {(1 Cor 7:7)}. It is with some hesitation, therefore, that we determine the measure of nourishment for others. However, making allowance for the weakness of the infirm, we think one hemina of wine a day is sufficient for each one. But to whom God granteth the endurance of abstinence, let them know that they will have their special reward:
| 41:2 Իսկ եթէ պէտք տեղւոյն, կամ աշխատութիւն եւ տապ ամարայնոյ աւելի ինչ պահանջիցեն յիշխանութեան Առաջնորդին իցէ առնել զինչ պատշաճ իցէ. այլ յամենայնի այնմ իմն ուշ յեդեալ նայեսցի, զի մի յագեցութիւն. մանաւանդ զի ընթեռնումք եւս եթէ չէ ամենեւին վանականաց գինի:
| 41:2 If the circumstances of the place, or the work, or the summer' s heat should require more, let that depend on the judgment of the Superior, who must above all things see to it, that excess or drunkenness do not creep in:
| 41:3 Այլ քանզի այժմու վանականքս չմարթին այսմ խելամուտ լինել գոնեայ այսմ միայն զիջանիցիմք զի մի ցյագ ըմպիցեմք, այլ չափ իմն. զի գինի եւ զզգաստսն գիտէ ի հաւատոց արկանել:
| 41:3 Although we read that wine is not at all proper for monks, yet, because monks in our times cannot be persuaded of this, let us agree to this, at least, that we do not drink to satiety, but sparingly; because “ wine maketh even wise men fall off:
| 41:4 Բայց եթէ պէտք տեղւոյն այնպէս ինչ պահանջիցեն, զի եւ ոչ ըստ չափոյն զոր վերագոյն ասացաք, գտանիցի այլ սակաւ ինչ քան զայն կամ գրեթէ ոչ ինչ իսկ, գոհասցին զԱստուծոյ, որ անդն բնակիցեն, եւ մի տրտնջեսցեն: Քանզի յառաջ քան զամենայն զայս խրատ տամք, զի առանց տրտնջանաց վճարիցի ամենայն:
| 41:4 But where the poverty of the place will not permit the aforesaid measure to be had, but much less, or none at all, let those who live there bless God and murmur not. This we charge above all things, that they live without murmuring:
