The Armenian Badarak is a participatory service that requires the active engagement of worshippers. Liturgy means “work of the people.” The Armenian Badarak is in Classical or Church Armenian, the oldest form of Armenian still in use. To do so, it helps to know the structure, flow and main hymns and phrases of the Badarak.<\/p>\n

Because of its limited scope, it is actually easier to learn Church Armenian than Modern Western or Eastern Armenian. Since the Armenian language is distantly related to English, you may recognize words or parts of words. These are known as cognates. For many people, recognizing cognates helps accelerate acquisition of a foreign language. If you find them helpful, cognates are listed and marked in with the cognate key in the “Get to the Root of It!” materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
