Learning a whole language can be daunting. But you’d be surprised how many situations you can handle with just 50 common words and phrases. Although you may be inspired to learn more, if all you know is these, you should be able to navigate your way through most common situations in Armenian Church and community and family settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Armenian Language is distantly related to English, for this reason, you may recogn<\/strong>ize certain words (or parts of words). These related words are called\u00a0cogn<\/strong>ates. Cognates usually have similar consonants, or the consonants exhibit a regular correspondence, e.g.,\u00a0h<\/em><\/strong>ayr\u00a0<\/em>f<\/strong>ather\u00a0p<\/strong>ater,\u00a0h<\/em><\/strong>ats\u00a0<\/em>f<\/strong>ood\u00a0p<\/strong>asture. Armenian often loses letters, as in\u00a0l<\/em><\/strong>i\u00a0<\/em>full\u00a0<\/strong>pl<\/strong>enty,\u00a0yere<\/strong>k\u00a0<\/em>thre<\/strong>e, and sometimes sounds change quite dramatically and uniquely, as in\u00a0dzn<\/em><\/strong>unt\u00a0<\/em>kin\u00a0<\/strong>gen<\/strong>eration,\u00a0dzan<\/em><\/strong>ot\u00a0<\/em>kn<\/strong>ow progn<\/strong>osis,\u00a0medz\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>meg<\/strong>a, or\u00a0k<\/em><\/strong>aghtsr\u00a0<\/em>sw<\/strong>eet,\u00a0k<\/em><\/strong>uyr\u00a0<\/em>s<\/strong>ister\u00a0so<\/strong>rority.
